Small Business Spotlight: Philthy

Meet Philip Ashenbremer

Phil loves Evansville for it’s rich history, proximity to the river, and up-and-coming vibe. It’s the ability to jump in and create and contribute to fashion, art, music, food and the overall culture here that excites him. For now, Philthy is his contribution. “If I’m going to live here, I want it to be cool.” Other things Phil thinks are cool? Siciliano Subs, Pangea, 2nd Language, Haynie’s Corner, Mo’s House, and the upcoming Sunset Skate Park.

Look for the new Philthy van outside the shop. You’ll usually find Phil inside listening to house music, sewing patches, selling vintage clothing and working to produce his own.

Philip Ashenbremer

Owner of vintage clothing store, Philthy, on Franklin Street. Phil grew up in Newburgh, IN, graduated from Castle High School, and went on to study fashion design at Indiana University. While he was in college, he sold vintage clothing online to clear out his closet and make some extra money. Not long after that, he met the owner of a vintage store in the heart of Bloomington, and became his first employee. The two then moved to Boulder, Colorado, and opened a second location together once Phil graduated.

Thrifting and vintage shopping has been on the rise and is more popular than ever, as pre-owned clothing is trendy, unique, and sustainable.
