Just around the river bend

Way down in the southernmost county of Indiana sits a city on the river, powered by industry and full of friendly faces. Mt. Vernon is the county seat of Posey County and is 15 miles west of Evansville and 15 miles south of New Harmony. Mt. Vernon got its name from George Washington's home, Mount Vernon on the Potomac. The city first thrived through agriculture and supporting businesses but is now better known as the 8th largest inland port in the country. But many industries are booming here - from precision machining to polymer production. It's lovingly called The Vern by hometowners, or the Hoop Pole Township by those familiar with the local legend. There is a lot contributing to the growth of this city. The revitalized riverfront connects the community and the bustling downtown is complete with historic charm. There's a lot to celebrate here.
