Easterseals Rehabilitation Center Therapeutic Pool
A new six-week session of aquatics programs begins Feb. 25, 2019, at the Easterseals Rehabilitation Center's fully accessible, warm-water therapeutic pool. Registrations are now being accepted for swim lessons for children of all abilities, as well as water aerobics for adults. SWIM LESSONS are available for children with and without disabilities, ages 3 and up. Small group lessons include no more than three students per instructor. One-on-one individual lessons are also available. Lessons cover water exploration to perfecting strokes. Lessons are 30 minutes each and classes meet once per week for 6 weeks. WATER AEROBICS for adults allows participants to work at their own fitness levels, ranging from light to moderate or heavy exercise. Swimming ability is NOT required. Six-week classes offer strengthening, muscle toning, and an aerobic workout. To sign up or for more information, contact Molly Mackey, Aquatics Manager, 812-474-2365 or [email protected] Class schedules, fees, and required forms are available at www.eastersealsrehabcenter.com. The Easterseals Rehabilitation Center's full size, accessible, warm-water therapeutic pool is the only one of its kind in the community. Full accessibility is provided by a wheelchair ramp and a motorized wheelchair-to-water lift. The pool features non-slippery deck flooring, therapeutic steps into the pool, grab bars, four water levels (1.5 to 4.5 feet deep), and adjustable parallel bars in the water at each level. The buoyancy and warmth of the water limits stress on joints, enhances mobility, and may reduce pain, muscle tightness and spasms. Three fully accessible locker rooms are available - men's, women's, and unisex (for a person with a disability assisted by a care-giver of the opposite sex).
